It is no secret that President Donald Trump loves to boast about his achievements as he sits in office. The recent reports are no different as Trump boasts about being responsible for the success of four tech giants.
Politicalflare reports that the stocks of the big four tech companies: Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Amazon have soared to a record high. These four companies drove the bull market and combined, they make up 17 percent of the S&P 500 and 70 percent of the NASDAQ gain this year. The four companies all amount to over one trillion in market caps respectively. Upon the news of their record highs, Trump immediately boasted that he was responsible for the record highs of all four tech companies.
Trump has emphasized how the American economy has improved since he entered office and it is one of the main points in his reelection campaign this year. The President then held up a sheet of paper titled “The Trillions Club” and listed down the four companies, the first letters of each company spelling out MAGA or Trump’s phrase “Make America Great Again.”
Coincidentally, as Trump boasts about the success of the four companies, he does not have a good relationship with Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon who also owns The Washington Post. Trump has repeatedly criticized pieces from the publication that covers his administration, dismissing them as fake news.
Meanwhile, CNN reports that Trump continues on what many perceive as a “revenge tour” as he recently dismissed two officials who testified during the House impeachment trials, following his public criticizing of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Mitt Romney a few days after his acquittal from the Senate impeachment trial. With Trump evidently trying to clean house of his political enemies, it bears wondering if Senator Susan Collins, who claimed that Trump may be more cautious moving forward and thus voted to acquit him, may still stand by her claim.
Collins stated, “I don’t know what actions you’re referring to. I’ve made very clear that I don’t think anyone should be retaliated against. That has nothing to do with the basis by which I voted to acquit the President. I voted to acquit the President, as I made very clear to you, Manu, on numerous occasions, because his conduct, while wrong, did not meet the high bar established in the Constitution for the immediate ouster of a duly elected President.”
