Donald Trump made a shocking statement on Sunday night and Monday morning that enraged Americans, the states, and public health experts.
Since America’s economy is on a downward spiral due to the coronavirus pandemic, the POTUS came up with the idea of sending people back to work next week or within the next 15 days.
Unfortunately, his statement did not sit well with a lot of people especially since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) advised people to stay at home and to self-isolate.
In the United States alone, there are over 35,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus and over 400 individuals have already died.
“We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself. At the end of the 15-day period, we will make a decision as to which way we want to go!” the POTUS tweeted in bold.
Immediately after, some netizens questioned why the POTUS was very particular about making a decision within the next 15 days and not longer.
“The fear of the virus cannot collapse our economy that President Trump has built up. We The People are smart enough to keep away from others if we know that we are sick or they are sick! After 15 days are over the world can begin to heal!” Twitter user @SexCounseling said.
“Correct. 15 days then we keep the high-risk groups protected as necessary and the rest of us go back to work,” Twitter user @steph93065 said.
“This is not how it works. If new coronavirus cases are still rising on a daily basis next week, then protecting the ‘high-risk groups’ means keeping the economy shut down. Trump should know better than to provide false hope like this,” journalist Aaron Rupar said.
Last weekend, Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York stressed the fact that coronavirus crisis is not a short-term situation. In fact, the problem cannot be addressed over a long weekend or even an entire week. Rather, it may only be eradicated withing four, six, or nine months.
